Financing a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle – Your Options Explained

There are various ways to finance a new or Approved Used Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. Our latest blog signposts the various options to help you decide the right route for you.

Motability Contract Hire Scheme

If you are in receipt of the Higher Rate Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) you can surrender this monthly payment to Motability in return for an adapted car or mobility vehicle. All new mobility vehicles are available on a minimum of a five-year lease, whereas standard cars are available on a three-year lease. You will have to pay an upfront payment towards the cost of the vehicle – referred to as an Advance Payment. All Sirus Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles are available on the Motability Scheme. To find out more visit the Motability website.

Motability Grants

Many of our customers apply for a grant towards a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Motability Advance Payment and any additional adaptations required. You can apply to Motability (the charity) which helps hundreds of people each year. For further information visit Motability Grants website.

Access to Work

If you are employed and need a mobility vehicle to get to and from work, you can apply to the government funded Access to Work. The support you get will depend on your needs and it does not matter how much you earn. If you get an Access to Work grant, it will not affect any other benefits you get and you will not have to pay it back. Find out more about Access to Work and your eligibility.
