Welcome to the team Darren, Financial Controller

We would like to give a very warm to welcome Darren, who joins us in the role of Financial Controller.  

Tell us about your work life before Sirus

“I have been in accountancy and finance for over 30 years,  starting my career in practice. After around seven years I made the move into industry as I felt that I could add more value.

The industries I have worked in include manufacturing, service and since 2019, automotive. I have worked with SMEs to PLCs with turnovers ranging from £1M to £150M. However, I feel that I am more suited to SMEs as I can get involved more so in the details and take a more hands-on approach. 

 Tell us about your role at Sirus

I have joined Sirus as a Financial Controller looking to bring my wealth of knowledge and experience to add value to the business. I will be looking at how Sage is used within the business, particularly the finance department to improve efficiencies and to streamline processes. If something doesn’t work, I am happy to investigate and provide solutions as opposed to workarounds. I will also work closely with all departments adding help and support where I can. I have a good finance and IT team and I am keen to help them develop and progress.

How have you found working at Sirus so far?

So far it has been great, there’s lots to do and lots of areas where I think that my experience will benefit Sirus. The people are great – with good values. I am Black Country born and bred so it’s nice to ‘come home’ as it were and be part of Sirus – especially during the 20th anniversary year. I love that we care about our customers and go above and beyond to help – we are a business with a heart.

What do you love about working at Sirus?

As well as the people, I think that what we do is fantastic. My brother was paraplegic and had an adapted vehicle, so I know how our vehicles change people’s lives. So, for me to be part of that means so much to me. Having the knowledge of Motability and also having a recent automotive back ground, added to the 30 years accountancy experience, watching everything come together will be good to see.”
