Ford Connect – wheelchair accessible vehicle range for drivers and passengers

The Ford Connect is a customer favourite Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle and the ideal WAV for people who are looking for inclusive, comfortable, accessible travel.

Our range includes four different options:

1. Ford combined Drive From Wheelchair/Upfront Passenger

Drive from your wheelchair or travel upfront next to the driver. Switch places from driver to the passenger position while on your journey with our expertly designed interchangeable front seat.

Ford WAV features

Our Ford Drive/Upfront is designed with an automated tailgate and ramp ensuring complete independence. The key fob opens the tailgate and ramp so the wheelchair user can safely enter the vehicle using the shallow ramp. Once you are comfortably in the driver position, simply press a button on the dashboard or the key fob and the tailgate and ramp will close. This conversion has a lowered floor to ensure the maximum amount of interior headroom. (Maximum eyeline 137cm / 54″).

Seating options

The conversion can seat up to four people, with up to two rear fold down seats (three seats as standard, four maximum). Find out more about our Ford Tourneo WAV.

2. Ford Internal Transfer

This conversion is designed for drivers who want to transfer internally to a standard driver’s seat. Enter the vehicle from the rear, secure your wheelchair safely inside the vehicle and transfer across to the driver’s seat. This means you can enjoy travelling from an OEM seat without transferring by the roadside and can secure your wheelchair safely inside the vehicle without having to dismantle or lift it.

Wheelchair accessible vehicle features

Our Ford Internal Transfer is designed with an automated tailgate and ramp, ensuring complete independence. The key fob opens the tailgate and ramp and you can safely enter the vehicle using the shallow ramp. Once you are comfortably in the driver position, simply press a button on the dashboard or the key fob and the tailgate and ramp will close.

Seating options

The conversion is installed with a powered six-way seat base that moves up and down, forwards and backwards and rotates 90 degrees so you can find the optimum transfer position. As standard, there is space for the driver, one front passenger and one rear passenger. There is also an option to add an additional rear seat (depending on your wheelchair width).

Wheelchair accessible vehicle safety features – securing your wheelchair

Your wheelchair will be safely secured behind the front passenger seat either with straps or an automated wheelchair locking system (depending on your preference). We can discuss the options with you on your demonstration.

3. Ford Upfront Passenger

This conversion is designed to enable the wheelchair user to sit upfront next to the driver. This creates a much more sociable way to travel as you can chat with the driver, control the music and enjoy the view. This conversion is designed with side entry which allows access to the vehicle from the curb or a from a Blue Badge parking space. As standard, the Ford Upfront wheelchair accessible vehicle has space for five people.

Ford WAV Boot space and storage

The benefit of this side entry conversion means we do not convert the boot space so you will have plenty of room for luggage and equipment. If you need even more space, then the rear seats can be folded down.

4. Ford Rear Passenger WAV

With seating for six people, the Ford Connect is the perfect family wheelchair accessible vehicle. Our premium conversion retains Ford’s original three mid-row seats and the wheelchair user sits comfortably in the third row. Our latest wheelchair accessible vehicle boasts exceptional headroom and space, our signature Sirus high quality finish, and the latest Ford driver assistance and safety technology.

Rear entry – manual tailgate and ramp 

Our rear entry conversion is designed so you can park with ease in a standard parking space. The wheelchair user enters and exits from the rear via a light, counter-balanced manual ramp and assisted tailgate. Our ramp is designed with a shallow incline and is designed to ensures an unobstructed view through rear window.

Space for six people with flexible seating options

Space for six people as standard – wheelchair user, driver, front passenger and three mid-row passengers. The mid-row of seats includes two ISOFIX fitments to secure child seats. Fold away one, two or three mid-row seats giving you a more inclusive wheelchair position and additional space for larger wheelchairs.

Class-leading headroom

Our expertly designed non-slip lowered floor provides class-leading headroom for taller wheelchair users – 145cm/57″.
