Customer Choice: The perfect family car – Ford Grand Tourneo Connect

Our Ford Grand Tourneo Connect Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle is one of our most popular designs to date. A firm favourite among wheelchair drivers and upfront passengers, this is the ideal vehicle for people who are looking for independence and inclusive travel. With four seats as standard (five in our upfront passenger WAV) and a spacious boot, this is the perfect family car.

Our range includes three different Ford WAV cars –  the Ford Drive/Upfront an Internal Transfer and a Ford Upfront all with many fantastic user-friendly features.

  1. Side entry

Our Ford Wheelchair Accessible Cars are designed with side entry which allows access to the vehicle from the curb or a from a Blue Badge parking space. Sirus customer Mark explains. “My Sirus Ford Drive/Upfront has lowering suspension which is excellent. It means that the ramp deploys straight onto the pavement. It’s not even like a ramp anymore, it just bridges the gap across the curb.” Read Marks story here.

2. Switch from driver to passenger

With our Ford Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle you can choose to drive or travel up front and switch places between the driver and passenger position at any time. The front seat can easily be detached and moved to the opposite position on transfer wheels and secured safely.

  1. Lowered floor for maximum headroom

All Sirus Ford conversions have a fully lowered floor to ensure the maximum amount of interior headroom. The maximum eyeline for drivers in the Ford Drive/Upfront is 135cm / 53.5”.

  1. Short ramp just 70cm

We have designed the Drive/Upfront vehicle with lowering suspension which means the automated ramp is just 70cm long. This means you can easily enter and exit via a Blue Badge parking bay and the shallow ramp has an angle below 11 degrees.

  1. Internal transfer option

Also based on the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect, we offer an Internal Transfer solution. Due to the shallow ramp angle, we find that our manual wheelchair customers can easily self-propel up the low ramp. Some of our customers like Sue return to drive after a spinal cord injury – you can read her story here.

The Sirus Ford Drive/Upfront has retained two original manufacturer rear seats, which can also be folded down to give you additional space for equipment. A fold-away step can also be fitted in the rear for additional leg comfort. The Ford Upfront has three rear seats as standard.
