An Internal Transfer WAV is a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle which is designed to enable you to drive from a standard driver seat. You can safely transfer from your wheelchair to the driver seat inside the vehicle.
Most WAV’s are designed for the wheelchair user to sit in the back. For disable drivers, you can either drive from your wheelchair (if you are a powerchair user) or drive a standard car with adaptations. With an Internal Transfer WAV you can use your ability to transfer, but with the safety and comfort of transferring inside the vehicle.
As well as designing Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, Sirus provide an adaptations service adapting standard cars so we meet many customers who want to drive a standard car with adaptations, transferring from their wheelchair to the driver seat. The advantage of having an internal transfer WAV as opposed to an adapted standard car is that you will transfer inside the vehicle. So if its raining you will stay dry and if you are parked on the road this is a safer alternative. Our mobility specialists can advise you on all of the options so you carefully select the right solution for you.
If you have the ability to transfer and want to use your upper body strength, an Internal Transfer Vehicle could be the perfect option. Many of our customers who use a manual chair will also opt for this solution as opposed to a drive from wheelchair vehicle.
The Sirus VW Transfer is designed with rear entry, so you enter from the ramp at the rear and the ramp and tailgate are both automated. This is easily operated using a key fob or button on the dash so you can open and close independently.
The Sirus Ford Internal Transfer is the ideal solution if you want to drive from a standard driver seat. An internal transfer conversion, this is a safer and easier alternative to transferring externally at the side of the road.
On the occasion when you don’t want to drive you can safely travel in the rear of the vehicle. Your wheelchair is secured using a 4-point manual tie down system.
Your transfer is assisted by an automatic 6-way transfer seat which swivels up to 90 degrees, goes up and down, forwards and backwards. This allows you to find the optimum transfer position.
Your wheelchair is secured behind the front passenger seat and parallel to the six-way seat to enable a comfortable transfer. Your wheelchair can be secured using manual straps or an automated lock. We will discuss this with you during your demonstration.
With the Sirus VW Internal Transfer as standard, there is space for two people (driver and front passenger) with the option of fitting one fold-down seat in the back (depending on the width of your wheelchair).
With the Sirus Ford Internal Transfer provides space for up to four people. Your rear passengers can enjoy the comfort of two original manufacturer rear seats, complemented by a fold-away footrest for added comfort.

Our mobility specialists at Sirus can advise you on the best adaptations to suit your requirements. Alternatively (and if you are driving for the first time or returning to driving after a lengthy period) you can visit your Regional Driving Assessment Centre and have an assessment carried out by an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor). If you are using the Motability Scheme, they have a team of mobility assessors who will carry out an assessment during your home demonstration.
