Creating freedom and independence for Faye
Faye from Halifax has been a Sirus customer for 12 years. Faye tells us about her Drive From Wheelchair vehicle and how driving is an essential part of life rearing horses and competing as a carriage driver. “I literally use my Sirus car every day – it’s my legs, my freedom and independence and I don’t know what I would do without it! I use my car for everything, it’s an essential part of my life and enables me to go anywhere. My Sirus car is essential so I can travel to various stable yards around the country. I hate having to rely on people, driving from my wheelchair allows me to just get in the car and go!”
Independently travelling to university and work
Rupy is a Health Psychologist specialising in disability, healthcare, and mental health, needed a vehicle she could drive so she could get to and from university and travel to work. Rupy said: “My family had a wheelchair accessible vehicle that I couldn’t drive. It meant I had to rely on them to take me out or use public transport which often isn’t accessible or takes ages.
I love driving my drive from wheelchair vehicle. I still pinch myself I can drive; it’s something I can do for myself. When I see people using taxis, I know that my life would be harder. I wouldn’t change it for the world. Without my Drive From Wheelchair vehicle, I would not be able to travel to work, it’s not just getting me from A to B, its changed my life.”
Helping Josh grow his successful business
Josh shares his story to tell us about the essential part his drive from wheelchair vehicle has played in his life. Without driving, he wouldn’t have been able to study at university and achieve his qualifications. Josh said: “Being able to drive is life-changing and you don’t realise what an essential part of life it is. Studying IT Management and Business at the University West of England, I used my car every day to drive to and from campus.
I launched Able Move – and I developed a range of award-winning products to assist disabled people travelling by air, keeping wheelchairs dry from the water after swimming, and leg straps and harnesses. Running my own business, I need my Sirus car to drive to exhibitions and client meetings all over the UK.”
It’s like a dream come true
Amy from Surrey tell us how in just four days, her new WAV changed her life. “I absolutely love it! It is like a dream come true. It is so easy to get in and out via the automated ramp, it takes away all the anxiety from going out. I used to dread going out as it caused me so much physical pain. My wheelchair accessible vehicle has literally changed my life in just a few days, the difference is phenomenal. It is also great to know I have the option to switch to upfront wheelchair passenger position if I ever need it and my daughter can drive. Now I can drive to the pool to go swimming, yesterday I drove to meet friends who I hadn’t seen for years which was wonderful.”
